Winners of the PFS Media Awards Revealed

The winners of the Personal Finance Society Media Awards 2019 were announced by comedian Jo Caulfield at The International Conference Centre, Birmingham, last night. National Newspaper Personal Finance Section of the year was FT Money and picking up the trophy for Trade Press Personal Finance Publication of the year was FTAdviser and Financial Adviser.

 

More than 100 Personal Finance Society members voted for their favourite personal finance titles in a poll conducted by the professional body this summer. A panel of finance experts decided the following journalists produced the best articles, copy and broadcast features this year.

 

  • National Newspaper Personal Finance Journalist

    • Winner: Mail on Sunday’s Laura Shannon

    • Highly Commended: The Times’s Mark Atherton

    • Runner-up: Telegraph’s Adam Williams

  • National Newspaper Personal Finance Newcomer

    • Winner: This is Money’s Will Kirkman

    • Highly Commended: Daily Mail’s Ben Wilkinson

    • Runner-up: Telegraph’s Harry Brennan

  • Personal Finance Consumer Champion

    • Winner: Telegraph’s Katie Morley

    • Highly Commended: BBC’s Jonathan Gibson (Video submission)

    • Runner-up: Daily Mail’s Samantha Partington

  • Trade Press Personal Finance Journalist

    • Winner: New Model Adviser’s Ollie Smith

    • Highly Commended: New Model Adviser’s Charles Walmsley

    • Runner-up: Money Marketing’s Justin Cash

The media awards were judged by Caroline Stuart, head of technical solutions at Newark on Trent-based financial planners DB Wood, Chartered Financial Planner, and founder of a firm of all female IFAs Vanessa Barnes, PR David Andrews and Keith Richards, chief executive of the Personal Finance Society. Mr Richards said:

 

“The Personal Finance Society Media Awards celebrate editorial excellence in the coverage of financial services. The winning journalists and publications vigorously researched their important topics and delivered balanced articles, written in a way that anyone could understand.”
